express entry (EE)
Express Entry is an online system employed by the Canadian government to manage and streamline applications for skilled workers seeking to immigrate to Canada and obtain permanent resident status.
The system manages three main federal economic programs:
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW)
- Federal Skilled Trades (FST)
Express Entry (EE)
In order to submit a profile through the Express Entry system, candidates must meet the eligibility requirements for one of the three federal programs. Individuals with university or college degrees, skilled work experience and moderate proficiency in English and/or French are ideal Express Entry candidates.
ABOUT THE EXPRESS ENTRY (EE)
Express Entry is a popular program for skilled foreign workers entering Canada. It manages applications for the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades programs.
Applicants are ranked based on points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Highest-scoring candidates receive invitations to apply for permanent residency.
Express Entry provides efficient access to permanent residency in Canada for skilled individuals. Meeting eligibility requirements doesn’t guarantee an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Seeking guidance can improve chances of success in the program. The Canadian Express Entry system is a highly sought-after immigration program that facilitates skilled foreign workers’ entry into Canada. It is an advanced electronic system designed to streamline and manage the application process for three main economic immigration programs.
The first program is the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), which caters to individuals with relevant work experience in skilled occupations. These applicants must possess the necessary educational qualifications, language proficiency, and other skills that contribute to Canada’s economy.
The second program is the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), which focuses on individuals who have gained valuable work experience in Canada. This program is open to temporary foreign workers and international graduates who have adapted to the Canadian work environment.
The third program is the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), which targets skilled tradespeople with specific trade qualifications and work experience in designated occupations in Canada.
Express Entry operates on a point-based Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Candidates are assigned scores based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability. The highest-scoring candidates are regularly invited to apply for permanent residency through draws conducted by the Canadian government.
Eligible applicants for any of the three programs can create an online Express Entry profile and enter the candidate pool. Those with the highest CRS scores receive invitations to apply for permanent residency. Successful applicants receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and must submit a complete application within a specified timeframe.
The Express Entry system has significantly expedited the immigration process, providing skilled individuals with efficient access to permanent residency opportunities in Canada. It offers a transparent and merit-based selection process for those seeking to live and work in the country.
It’s imperative to note that meeting Express Entry eligibility requirements does not guarantee an ITA. The CRS scores required to receive an invitation can vary depending on the number of candidates in the pool. This is also dependent on the government’s immigration goals. Seeking guidance from qualified immigration professionals can greatly enhance your chances of success in the Express Entry system.
CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS (CEC)
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is an immigration category for skilled workers and international graduates who have gained valuable work experience in Canada. It allows them to transition to permanent residency. Eligibility requires at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada, language proficiency, and meeting education requirements. Contact us for an evaluation of your eligibility for the CEC.
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a category of the Canadian immigration system that facilitates the transition of skilled temporary foreign workers and international graduates who have gained valuable work experience in Canada to become permanent residents. It is one of the three economic immigration programs managed through the Express Entry system.
The CEC is designed for individuals who have already adapted to the Canadian work environment and have acquired the necessary language skills, work experience, and education to contribute to the Canadian economy. It recognizes the value of individuals who have already established themselves in the Canadian labor market and wish to continue living and working in the country on a permanent basis.
To be eligible for the CEC, applicants must meet certain criteria. They must have at least one year of skilled, professional, or technical work experience in Canada within the past three years. This work experience must have been obtained legally while holding valid temporary status in Canada, such as a work permit.
Language proficiency is also an important requirement for the CEC. Applicants must demonstrate their language skills in either English or French by taking an approved language test. This is to ensure that individuals have the necessary language abilities to integrate into the Canadian society and workforce.
Additionally, CEC applicants must meet the minimum requirements for education. This can be demonstrated by obtaining a Canadian post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate, or by obtaining an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign educational credentials.

FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER PROGRAM (FSWP)
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a popular immigration pathway in Canada’s Express Entry system. It attracts skilled workers who can contribute to the economy. Applicants are assessed based on factors like age, education, language proficiency, work experience, and adaptability. Minimum requirements include relevant work experience, language proficiency, education, and settlement funds. Meeting requirements doesn’t guarantee an invitation. Contact us for a comprehensive evaluation of your eligibility.
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a key component of Canada’s Express Entry system and is designed to attract skilled foreign workers who can contribute to the country’s economy. It is one of the most popular immigration pathways for individuals seeking permanent residency in Canada.
The Federal Skilled Worker Program offers skilled individuals a pathway to pursue their careers and build a new life in Canada. It provides opportunities for foreign workers with in-demand skills to contribute to the Canadian economy and enrich the country’s cultural diversity.
Under the FSWP, applicants are assessed based on various factors to determine their eligibility and potential to integrate into the Canadian labor market. These factors include their age, education, language proficiency in English and/or French, work experience, adaptability, and whether they have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.
To qualify for the FSWP, applicants must meet certain minimum requirements. These include having at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time work experience in a skilled occupation within the last ten years, meeting the required language proficiency thresholds, having a completed Canadian post-secondary educational credential or a foreign educational credential with an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), and possessing sufficient settlement funds.
It’s important to note that the FSWP operates on a points-based system, and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an invitation to apply for permanent residency. The CRS score required to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) can vary depending on the number of candidates in the pool and the government’s immigration targets.

FEDERAL SKILLED TRADES (FST)
To qualify for the Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program, applicants need a minimum of two years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the past five years. This experience must be gained after receiving certification to practice the trade in their country of residence.
Once these criteria are met, candidates can create an Express Entry profile with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). However, having a profile does not guarantee receiving Canadian permanent residence. Candidates are assigned a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score upon submission and may be considered for Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in future draws.
When creating an Express Entry profile, FST candidates must provide several documents:
- Language Proficiency Test Results: All candidates must submit results from an approved language test taken within the past two years.
- Identification Documents: Candidates and accompanying family members should ideally have valid passports for travel.
- Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA): While not required, an ECA report is necessary to claim points for education. This report validates foreign education by Canadian standards. Educational credentials from Canadian institutions do not require an ECA.
Every year, more than half of Canada’s immigrants are skilled workers accepted through economic programs, such as the Federal Skilled Trades program. For eligible tradespeople, this program offers a quick path to Canadian permanent residence, granting the right to live and work in Canada permanently.
